Immerse yourself
in the craft and community
of academic writing
Find all information below to see how structured writing retreats and workshops can foster deep work, scholarly community, and research productivity to help you make significant progress with demanding writing projects.
Method
A structured writing retreat builds on a proven approach for academic development that helps advance individual writing projects in a scheduled, supportive, and non-surveillance environment together with other writers, to make progress with demanding writing projects and jointly reflect on and develop healthy, sustainable, and effective writing routines.
Advance your paper, dissertation or grant proposal
Individual projects for a writing retreat can include everything from journal articles and grant proposals to book chapters, research proposals and teaching portfolios. During the retreat, you work based on scheduled writing sprints with a group of writers, have discussions and workshops between writing slots to address challenges during the writing process, find solutions to writing and research problems, develop drafts, lead research-orientated conversations and provide peer feedback on the writing in-progress.
An evidence-based approach with proven impact
Research shows: structured offsites for academics achieve long-lasting positive effects on writing routines and publication output.
They facilitate ‘break-though’ writing progress by providing a protected space and uninterrupted time away from the usual workplace and other daily distractions.
They build advanced academic writing skills and competencies through self-guided improvement and structured inputs during workshop elements.
They increase motivation for writing by building a professional network that serves as a community of practice and peer support.
They strengthen the professional identity of academics as writers.
